RiverBend Cancer
Services, formerly The Cancer Society of St. Joseph
County, has been the primary local cancer support
service provider in our community since 1943;
Offering advocacy and counseling programs for
patients and their families, financial assistance
for medications and supplies, as well as prevention
and early intervention programs for the community. A
short history of our organization is as follows:

Founded in 1943 as Cancer Society of
St. Joseph County.

In 1950, becomes a
unit of the American Cancer Society.
-
Disaffiliates in 1958 from the
American Cancer Society, to become a county-based
organization known as the Cancer Society of St.
Joseph County.
-
Joins with the Arthritis Foundation in
1962, to share staff and building.
-
In 1966, the Cancer Society of St.
Joseph County, Arthritis Foundation and United
Health Foundation are joined together to share staff
and facilities.
-
The Cancer Society of St. Joseph
County is named RiverBend Cancer Services in 2002.
-
In 2007,
RiverBend Cancer Services disaffiliates from United Health Services and moves
to its current location at 919 E. Jefferson
Boulevard South Bend, Indiana.
Through the financial support of private donors, we
are the primary local provider of cancer support
services for Michiana. All of our
funding comes from our community and stays here!
